SUMMARY: Employees will perform inspections of residential homes (1-4 units or multi-family projects) to determine energy efficiency opportunities that can save the homeowner/resident money and make the home more comfortable and safer. The technician inspects the home from attic to basement to assess each space to determine if heat loss areas can be weatherized to reduce heat losses. The inspector then performs many energy efficiency tasks, using blower door and ductblaster technologies to eliminate the heat loss areas. Other energy saving measures are also included, such as the installation of energy efficient light bulbs and water saving items. All employees must successfully meet training requirements within the first 30 days of employment. All weatherization work performed is to BPI (Building Performance Institute) Standards.

Customers are referred to CRI from utility company partners, word of mouth, and internal marketing campaigns. The customer is scheduled through our Call Center Department, and the work order is provided to the field technician to travel to the appointment. All products needed for the job are provided by the company and maintained in our Yalesville warehouse. The technician, using either a company van or their own vehicle (company vans are provided for some work) travels to the appointment at a designated time with a fellow technician, also referred to as a crew. Within the crew is a team leader, or senior technician. Senior technicians will direct the work of the field technician to allow for effective use of time and equipment.

Working as a team, the 2 technicians begin to identify heating/central air-cooling duct system leaks using diagnostic equipment called Duct Blaster and Blower Door; seal ducts with mastic, metal-backed tape, or mastic caulking; seal air leaks that Blower Door Testing detects with caulk, foam, rad panel, V seal, door kits, door sweeps; conduct airflow testing recording pre and post test measurements; install compact florescent bulbs; test combustion appliances (i.e gas/oil furnace, water heater) to make sure they are venting properly; pre and post test system airflow across coil and heat exchanges and check heat rise in system.

At the conclusion of the visit, the homeowner is provided details on what work was done, possible further opportunities to consider saving even more energy and provided with a packet of energy saving advice.
