Connecticut Funding Available For Home Energy Efficiency

Competitive Resources Inc. is working with state utility company Connecticut Light and Power Company (CL&P) to help Connecticut families weather-proof their homes and lower their heating costs by dealing with heat loss due to improper insulation.

While insulating a house can be a large undertaking, it doesn’t cost much to get a home energy audit and find out just how much energy is needlessly wasted in any given household. The assessments typically cost around $70, but both the state and various local governments offer rebates and other financial incentives, so that an energy audit may end up costing home-owners no money at all.

The owners of multi-family housing complexes and other large properties can also apply for a free energy audit. For multi-family homes, where energy efficiency and insulation properties of one unit are affected by the whole, it’s both more efficient and, ultimately, more effective to audit and insulate the whole building as one.

According to industry estimates, as a result of a relatively simple exterior and interior treatment, each apartment in a multi-family home will save between $100 and $300 per year in heating costs.
