Company Overview
Competitive Resources’ (CRI) wide variety of services and products address the total spectrum of needs associated with marketing energy services and Demand Side Management (DSM) programs in residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional markets. Over the last few years, our primary focus has been on residential energy efficiency applications; particularly those aimed at the low-income sector.
Drawing upon the experience gained through our involvement with electric, gas and water utility programs, CRI’s expertise is also offered directly to end users. The Company has developed specific energy related services for municipalities, property management firms, and commercial building owners and occupants. CRI customers are saving money as well as retaining and acquiring clients through the introduction of cost saving energy programs.
Wide Variety of Services and Products
In recent years, CRI has been under contract to the United Illuminating Company (UI) and Connecticut Light and Power Company (CL&P) to service their ENERGYSTAR Initiatives in Connecticut. Our responsibilities included: recruiting retailers to participate as ENERGYSTAR partners and helping to promote the value of purchasing energy efficient lighting and appliances to consumers. Providing dealer training, point of purchase display assistance and sponsoring special events are among the duties CRI has performed in this operation. Involvement with these types programs dates back to 1989 when we conducted the Blue Ribbon Appliance efficiency program on behalf of Northeast Utilities.
Residential Services
In addition to the retail services, our weatherization staff is actively engaged in the certification of ENERGYSTAR homes and performing HERS ratings in the state of Connecticut as well. The residential team provides turnkey services on behalf of UI including recruitment, air sealing, plan review, inspections, and certifications. Our crews have provided inspection and weatherization-related services under contract with the Connecticut Light & Power Company, United Illuminating Company, and Western Massachusetts Electric Company. CRI staff has also performed residential weatherizartion and contractor arranging services on behalf of Public Service of New Hampshire.
UI HELPs
Employing a “Neighborhood Blitz” strategy, CRI has served the low-income communities in UI’s service territory dating back to 1990. The most current program, called UI HELPs, finds our crews going door to door in pre-selected neighborhoods providing services ranging from simple CFL change outs to weatherization and contractor arranging services when electric space heating is used. Replacement of halogen torchieres and identification of older inefficient refrigerators and room air conditioning equipment are also among our responsibilities.
Utility Support
Utility clients have also recognized CRI’s ability to train and provide quality personnel for a variety of projects that were, in the past, performed by their own personnel. For example, we provide supervision and staffing for UI’s SmartLiving Center and did the same for CL&P’s facility when it was open. CRI staff also promotes the school energy education curriculum called eeSmartsTM on behalf of the Connecticut utilities. We have also provided warehousing and fulfillment services for the educational materials associated with eeSmarts.
